Orbera Balloon

OrberaTM intragastric balloon is an interventional endoscopic non-surgical procedure to achieve weight loss. The procedure is indicated in the obese with a BMI of 30 to 40 kg/m2, experiencing dissatisfactory results following diet and exercise.

The Orbera intragastric balloon is performed under mild sedation. A soft silicon balloon is placed inside the stomach through your mouth with the help of an endoscope (narrow tube with a camera and light source). Your doctor then inflates the balloon with saline water so that it occupies a pre-determined amount of space in the stomach, giving a feeling of fullness. This procedure is performed in combination with long-term diet and behavior-modification to achieve the required loss of weight. The balloon is placed for a period of 6 months after which it is removed.

Orbera intragastric balloon may lead to abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, which can be managed.
