Nurse Practitioner / NP - Bilingual (English and Spanish)

Location: Woodlands and North Houston

Employment Type: Full-Time

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will be responsible for direct patient care and for other administrative duties under physician supervision within large Gastroenterology practice. Excellent communication and customer service skills are required in working with physicians, staff, and patients.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Practice medicine using sound medical judgment and adhere to all ethical considerations of the practice of medicine; know limitations and seek consult when advisable; keep abreast of current technologies and industry standards
  • Utilize daily advance practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data and to manage a caseload of patients
  • Provide nutrition counseling to patients on a variety of treatment plans. Work in conjunction with the development of a formal bariatrics program
  • Meet all clinical obligations of the medical practice: accrediting agency compliance, drug prescription compliance, HIPAA, state and federal regulations, safety regulations, etc.
  • Follow internal policies and procedures be accountable for completion of all operational tasks according to departmental guidelines to ensure appropriate clinical processing/documentation
  • See patients in a timely and efficient manner, stay reasonably on time for scheduled appointments
  • Charting in the patient's medical record to be routinely completed on the same day as the patient's visit
  • Identify, facilitate, and participate in performance improvement projects that enhance patient care
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships and communicate relevant information in a timely manner to medical staff, interdepartmental liaisons and service staff

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Must be fluent in Spanish
  • Excellent basic medical knowledge, clinical skills and judgement.
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience required.
  • Must be professional, flexible, caring and compassionate and exhibit a congenial and sensitive attitude towards patients.
  • Able to evaluate care needs, gather and assimilate relevant clinic data.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication and able to interact with patients, families, and providers.

Education Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas is required.
  • CPR/American Heart Association BLS certification is required.
  • Minimum 3 years of nurse practitioner experience with GI is required; 5 years is preferred.
  • Experience in nutrition counseling is preferred.
